Sanford, Carolyn DVM, PhD

Carolyn Sanford is the Provincial Epidemiologist in the Chief Public Health Offi ce of the
Department of Health and Wellness in Prince Edward Island. She is Graduate Faculty at both
UPEI and UNB. She received both her PhD and DVM from the Atlantic Veterinary College.
Over the past few years she has collaborated with CCFV on a rotavirus study and has recently
submitted a paper on HPV uptake in boys in PEI. While her work and research interests are
not solely focused on immunization, she is interested in immunization program evaluation
and how health inequities aff ect immunization rates.







Stanford, Marianne PhD

Marianne Stanford is an adjunct associate professor in the Department of Microbiology
and Immunology, and the Director of Research at Immunovaccine, Inc. Immunovaccine
is a biotechnology company focused on advancing cancer therapies and infectious disease
vaccines based on its patented immune enhancement vaccine platform, DepoVax TM .
DepoVax-based vaccines create a unique deposit at the site of injection, and force the immune
system to process this optimized vaccine over a longer period of time. Marianne directs the
preclinical research conducted by the company, which supports the clinical development of
novel immune therapies for cancer, as well as infectious disease vaccines for diseases such as
RSV, anthrax and Ebola virus disease.






Ulanova, Marina MD, PhD
Marina Ulanova is a Professor of Immunology at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine and
holds appointments in the Departments of Biology, Chemistry, and Health Sciences of Lakehead
University. She runs a research program with the major focus on immunoepidemiology of
bacterial infections and host-pathogen interactions. She is specifi cally interested in Haemophilus
infl uenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa . In collaboration with
the National Microbiology Laboratory, National Research Council of Canada, and the Arctic
Investigation Program of the US Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, Ulanova works
towards the development of a new vaccine to prevent invasive Haemophilus infl uenzae type a
disease in North American Aboriginal people.
