Laboratories

The CCfV Laboratories function as referral

laboratories for industry, government
or collaborative research and also as
independently funded research laboratories

in infectious diseases, immunology and TESTS/PROCESSING
vaccinology.
• 393 PBMCs (peripheral blood
mononuclear cell) harvested to
CCfV off ers Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) compliant measure cell mediated immunity
serological and molecular typing assays pertinent to vaccine
and epidemiological research. It is a reference laboratory for • 4643 specimens screened & sub
measuring antibodies against pertussis antigens, in addition typed for infl uenza
to measuring antibodies against diphtheria, tetanus toxoids,
and pneumococci. Th e laboratory processes and isolates • 2786 sera tested with
peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) for assessing hemagglutination inhibition
cell-mediated immunity. Th e CIHR/PHAC Canadian against 6 diff erent infl uenza viruses
Immunization Research Network (CIRN) laboratory, located
here, is also the anchor laboratory for the Severe Outcomes • 2094 nasal swabs PCR tested to

Surveillance Network. Th is laboratory provides testing pneumonia
for the diagnosis of both infl uenza and pneumococcal
infection including polymerase chain reaction (PCR), • 1953 blood processed for serum
hemagglutination (HAI) assay, microneutralization assay,
and a molecular typing of pneumococcal serotypes. • 1542 serum samples tested using
ELISA for one or more antigens
In 2014 the CCfV labs provided services and support for 25
clinical trials and numerous other laboratory projects. In the • 86 shipments of various sample

of 1205 tubes of blood, 265 urine samples, and 265 saliva
