Fast Facts about the CCfV
- The Canadian Center for Vaccinology in Halifax, Nova Scotia, is a partnership of Dalhousie University, the IWK Health Centre, and Capital Health. It was established in August 2005, to develop, implement, and evaluate vaccine technologies and vaccines for infectious diseases that have a significant impact on Canadian and global health and to train experts in these critical and evolving fields.
- CCfV evolved from the Clinical Trials Research Center which has conducted clinical trials for industry and governments since 1992, including first-in-human phase 1 studies to post-licensure phase 4 trials. Typically there are approximately 80 studies underway from concept to manuscript, contracted by industry, governments and academic investigators.
- Initial funding for infrastructure was received from the Canada Foundation for Innovations' Innovation Fund and Reserch Hospital Fund, and the Government of Nova Scotia Office for Economic Development.
- Sanofi Pasteur donated $1million for naming rights on the Vaccine Challenge Unit, opened July 2009.
- The 20,000 gross sq ft of space include laboratories for microbiological and molecular research, ambulatory clinical trials facilities including four outpatient exam rooms, the Sanofi Pasteur Vaccine Challenge Unit / Clinical Research Unit for inpatient research, and a Containement Level 3 laboratory to open in 2010.
